BON VOISINAGE
Dumont Nickel has a protocol for harmonious cohabitation with neighbors and host communities.
The Good Neighbor Protocol was developed on a voluntary basis in consultation with neighbors and host communities, in accordance with international best practices, notably those established by the International Council on Mining and Metals.
The Good Neighbour Protocol is a specific procedure designed to receive, understand and respond to concerns and complaints from people affected by the project. The Good Neighbour Protocol is part of the Dumont project’s monitoring and follow-up program, and will come into effect as soon as construction work begins on the Dumont Nickel mine site, and will be valid for the duration of mining operations.
FOLLOW-UP COMMITTEE
PROJECT DUMONT
The Dumont Nickel Project Monitoring Committee is currently being set up. It is part of the company’s commitment to maintain an open, transparent and respectful dialogue with the community throughout the project’s development, in accordance with section 101.0.3 of the Quebec Mining Act.
With the support of a specialized outside firm, we are currently working to define its mandate, composition and mode of operation. This approach is based on recognized best practices in public participation and social acceptability.
A structured forum for dialogue
Le rôle du comité de suivi sera de favoriser un lien permanent entre Dumont Nickel, les citoyens et les parties prenantes. Il permettra :
- Un échange régulier d’informations sur les activités du projet ;
- L’expression des opinions, des préoccupations et des propositions des participants ;
- Un dialogue constructif, soutenu par des informations vulgarisées ;
- Mécanismes de prévention des conflits et de promotion de la résolution des litiges.
This committee will accompany the project through all its phases: construction, operation and closure.
Dumont Nickel’s commitments
To ensure the credibility and effectiveness of the Monitoring Committee, Dumont Nickel undertakes to :
- Provide members with clear and accessible information about the project;
- Cover the costs of organizing and running the committee (meetings, logistics, expertise, etc.);
- Analyze and, where possible, integrate consensus recommendations ;
- Set up a system to manage reports and follow up with the committee;
- Make documents related to the committee’s work available on this site;
- Publish an annual committee report.
The question of reimbursement of participation expenses (e.g. travel, babysitting) will be discussed with members at the committee’s first meeting.
PROGRAM
MONITORING AND FOLLOW-UP
Throughout the life of the Dumont project, an environmental monitoring and follow-up program will be implemented to ensure compliance with operating conditions dictated by federal and provincial authorities, and to track changes in several environmental and social components.
The results of environmental monitoring will be submitted to the ministries concerned and to the monitoring committee that will be set up to ensure participative vigilance over the project’s impacts. This monitoring committee, along with the community relations department and the ongoing communications program that will be provided for the Dumont project, will keep residents informed about the project’s environmental performance.
